Equisteps - Therapeutic Riding
Equisteps is an educational and therapeutic state of the art equestrian centre based at Spruce Lodge, Redcross, Co. Wicklow about 1 mile from Jack White's pub.
Run by a team who have a particular interest in and enthusiasm for the role of the horse in promoting and encouraging self-development through meaningful and constructive equine activities. The team also has a passion for education , and a strong belief in social inclusion for all.
Our team has vast experience in Therapeutic Riding is beneficial for people with physical, cognitive, emotional and development challenges. Besides therapeutic riding and equestrian education we also offer equestrian vaulting which brings children together and develops Team-work, communication skills, self-confidence and much much more.
All sessions are given by fully trained instructors.
Equisteps are now offering:
• Therapeutic riding lessons on a one-to-one basis • Recreational riding for children and adults • Equestrian vaulting for groups of up to 8 • Contact with ponies through grooming and leading activities • All ages and abilities catered for.
Our Team
Helen Keogh
Helen has a long and well established history with a highly regarded reputation within the equestrian training industry. With over 35 years’ experience of working with horses and 22 years working with people with disabilities, Helen has a wide and varied skill set. Helen holds her British Horse Society II, Horse Sport Ireland level 1 coaching and British Equestrian Vaulting level 2 coach, Helen also has a BA in applied Social Studies with Disability.
Essie Mooney
Essie has more than 15 years’ experience working with horses and people, including 7 years working with people with a variety of needs including physical, cognitive, emotional and sensory impairments. She has co-ordinated and managed groups for specific equine activities including Equine Assisted Learning and Therapeutic Riding as well as assisting in the co-ordinating and managing of a specialised equestrian centre. Essie has BA in Primary Education, is a qualified Therapeutic Riding Coach FETAC Level 6 , is EAGALA certified in Equine Assisted Learning, has Horse Sport Ireland level 1 coaching and is a British Equestrian Vaulting level 2 coach.
